Genre Lists

Fantasy | Horror | Mystery | Read 'Em and Weep | Romance | Science Fiction | Supernatural

For those of you who are saying, "Hunh? What does "genre" mean?", sorry! That's librarian-speak for "books categorized by type". But that's too much of a mouthful to write or say easily. For those of you who knew what I meant and think I'm being lame for explaining it, sorry again!

A lot of people like to concentrate on certain kinds of books, like romances or fantasy. They probably know an author or two, but might not be aware of others. Or maybe they haven't heard about some of the latest books of that type. Or maybe they're just beginning to read a certain kind of book and want to know some other titles that are classics of the field or authors who are well known for that kind of book. I'll be adding some lists to suggest some places to start. Please don't think that these lists are all there is, or even always the best or my favorites or anything close to it.

Other places to look for good lists or book reviews:

List titles include Nail Biters, Riot Grrrl!, Boy Meets Book, Closet Club, and Reality Bites! You'll enjoy browsing this site.

Flamingnet.com

Teens review for this site, too, which was created by a teen and his father.

How did I get these lists? Several ways. I browsed our shelves, I asked other librarians, I added some classics, I thought of books and authors I see being checked out a lot, and I used the following resources, two of which are available to you in the YA room:
