Welcome! We are proud to be a part of your child’s literacy and learning experiences. We offer a variety of materials, programs and services for children from birth through grade 6. We strive to encourage and enhance a life-long love of reading and learning. We hope you’ll spend some time browsing our links and reading about all that we have to offer. Most importantly, we hope you will visit us often.

On Your Mark ... Get Set … Read!

Who: Children of all ages
When: Starting June 13, 2016

Everyone is invited to join the Glastonbury Reading Team when the Summer Reading Club kicks off on June 13. The Children’s Department program is for children ages birth up through grade 6. A special baby program, Tiny Team, has been designed especially for our littlest library users. MORE

Tiny Team ~ Ages 0-18 months
Share nursery rhymes, songs and board books with the little ones to earn age-appropriate rewards. Pick up a copy of the Baby Program in the Children’s Department.

Little League ~ Ages 5 & under, not entering Kindergarten
Join Today Button-copyrighted image/Fotolia.comThis read-to-me program is for young children to enjoy listening to stories, and for new readers who may read and listen to reach the goal of reading 20 minutes or more per day. To register and record your reading, click here.

Big League ~ Entering grades K-6
This program for elementary school age children is part of the Governor’s Summer Reading Challenge. Children will enter each day they 20 minutes or more. They will also list the titles of the books as they finish each one. The total number of days and books read will sent to the Glastonbury schools at the end of the summer. Girl and Teddy BearBedtime Stories

Who: Families with children ages 2-6
When: Mondays, July 11-August 8, 2016
Time: 6:30pm
Place: Children's Department

Put on your PJ’s, grab your teddy bear and settle down for a half-hour of stories.
No registration needed.

Who: Families with children ages 6 & under
When: Thursdays, June 16-August 4, 2016
Time: 10:30am
Place: Children's Department

A drop-in storytime will be held in the Children’s Department courtyard if the weather allows, indoors if it doesn’t. Bring a blanket to use outside. No registration needed.

 

Evan Gottfried’s Family Music Extravaganza

Place: Library's Friends Room

Evan returns to Welles-Turner to inspire kids to be creative and silly, have fun, learn cool things and, mostly, to just be themselves. He hopes that the big people who hear his music will find inspiration and remember how it feels to be a kid. Join us for an unforgettable, highly danceable, movin,' groovin' time. No registration needed.

 

Closing Ceremony: Summer Finale

Celebrate the success of the Glastonbury Reading Team with a victory party for all ages on the front lawn of the library. The fun will include games, a craft, ice cream and, of course, a team photo, so wear your T-shirt! (We move to the Friends’ Room if it rains).
