Downloadable Audio Books

Welles-Turner Library now offers our patrons three downloadable audiobook programs which can be used to download books to your home computer. You can then choose to listen from your computer, burn the files to a CD, or transfer the files to an mp3 player. To get started, just click on the links below.

	Download Recorded Books from NetLibrary. These are the same high quality unabridged recordings that you find in the cassettes and CDs available from Recorded Books. New titles are added monthly. Audiobooks for children and teens are also available.

• The first time you use NetLibrary, you must create an account from one of the Welles-Turner Library computers.
• To create an account, click on the NetLibrary icon or link. Then click on the "Create a free account" in the upper right corner of the NetLibrary site.
• After creating your account, you may access it from any computer, anywhere.
• Files downloaded to your computer will become inactive after three weeks, unless renewed for an additional three weeks.
• This page contains information on mp3 player requirements, desirable features, and notes about selected players. Adobe Acrobat reader is required to view the information.
• You may need Windows Media Player 10 or above.
• April 2009: NetLibrary users should download the new Media Center. This should take 2-3 minutes if your operating system is up to date. It will take longer if your system requires updates. This new media center is compatible with dual core Macs (which run both Windows and Apple software). Compatibility with all Macs will be available in the future.
• April 2009: NetLibrary added books is .mp3 format. These audiobooks ARE compatibile with iPods. Books in .wma format are NOT compatible.
• August 2010: Welles-Turner Library does not subscribe to the e-books portion of this site. However, there are some publicly available titles, primarily classics and books no longer under copyright protection. These e-books are NOT iPad compatible.

	Download audiobooks through Overdrive. This service is offered through Library Connection. You can browse and search hundreds of titles and download them to your computer, transfer them to a portable device, or burn them onto a CD.

• You will need a valid library card.
• This service requires a one-time download of the Overdrive Media Console.
• Be sure to download and install the Overdrive Media Console before attempting to download an audiobook.
• You may also need to update your Windows Media Player. You will be prompted to do this when you first attempt to use the console.
• Some audiobooks on the Overdrive service may be checked out by only one patron at a time. You may place a hold on checked-out items.
• Most audiobook downloads may be checked out for 7 days. E-books, language, and travel downloads have a 14 day loan period.

• Overdrive supports these portable device players.
• New in October 2008: Microsoft Zune devices support OverDrive WMA and MP3 Audiobooks only.
• New in January 2009: OverDrive MP3 titles are now compatible with most Apple players, including iPods, the iPhone, and the iPod Shuffle. At this writing (January 2009), a limited number of MP3 titles is available. The collection will grow.
• New in January 2009: An Overdrive Media Console for the Mac is now available.
• This library may not presently carry all formats.
• August 2010: The CONNECT collection contains approximately 200 e-book titles at this time. They can be read on the Nook and on Sony and Kubo eReaders. These e-books are NOT compatible with iPads or Kindles.

	Download audiobooks through iConn. The audio books collection is a service of iCONN, the State Library's re-search engine, and is made possible by a PEGPETIA grant from the Department of Public Utilities. You can browse and search hundreds of titles and download them to your computer or transfer them to a portable device. Some titles may be burned onto a CD.

• You will need a valid library card.
• This service requires a one-time download of the Ingram Media Manager. There is a version for PC users and another for Mac users.
• Once you select a book, click on the Add to Bookshelf button. Once in your bookshelf, click the green Download Now button. (If this is your first download, you will need to download the Ingram Media Manager first.)
• You may have a maximum of two items checked out at a time.
• Audiobooks in this program may be checked out by only one patron at a time. You may place a hold on checked-out items.
• Most audiobook downloads may be checked out for 14 days. You may opt to charge it out for fewer days, but not for more.
• You cannot renew an audiobook. However, you may be able to check it out again, if it is an "Always Available" book, or if no one else is waiting for it.
• This service is compatible with iPods, most mp3 players, and portable devices that play WMA files
• Answers to some commonly asked questions can be found on this Help page..
• If iCONN (aka "your library") does not own a title you want to listen to, you may use the "suggest this title". iCONN will receive that information and determine if there is enough interest to purchase it. Welles-Turner Library does not have control over this decision.
• August 2010: E-books are not available at this time.
