Adult Services/Reference

Business Reference:

The Library has a comprehensive collection of business resources to help small business owners, job seekers, and others with their informational needs. One of our most helpful resources is ReferenceUSA. This latter resource is available from the Library's Internet workstations and from your home if you are a Glastonbury resident. Other sources include: Business Forms on File, New England Manufacturer's Directory, Franchise Opportunities, Official Hotel Guide, Thomas Register, World Wide Chamber of Commerce Directory, and U.S. Census information.

Computers:

The Adult Services Department has several computers available for the public to use. They are loaded with word processing and spreadsheet software, including Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. They also have access to the Internet. Black and white laser printing is available from all of these computers, at a charge of twenty cents a page. The Young Adult Room has a computer with both word processing and Internet capabilities. Fax Machine:

A fax machine was installed on the Main Street level in April, 2004. Outgoing faxes require a credit or debit card. Cost is $1.50 for the first page and $1.00 for each additional page. Patrons receiving faxes must be present when the fax arrives. Reference staff will NOT hold faxes at the desk.

Interlibrary Loans (ILL):

Material can be requested for loan from other Connecticut libraries. We will do our best to get the materials you request. Most materials other than reference materials are generally available for interlibrary loan, but each library has its own policies and may not lend all types of materials. Currently, WTML will ILL books from non-CONNECT libraries, but we will not request audiovisual materials from those libraries. Some lending libraries will charge a fee to ILL a book for their patrons.

ILL forms may be found and filled out at either the Reference or Children's Department desks.

Please note that interlibrary loans are for items not owned by Welles-Turner. If the library already owns the item, we will be happy to put a hold on it for you. (To put a hold on it yourself from home, look the item up in our online catalog, click on FULL DETAILS, then click on the HAND icon that appears on the record. You will need your library card.) If you would like us to place the hold, please call the library at 652-7720 (Adult Reference) or 652-7718 (Children’s Department).

An ILL typically takes between 7-10 days to arrive, but it may take longer depending on location, demand, and courier service staffing levels. For more information, please call the Reference Department at (860)652-7720.

Notary Public:

There are notaries available during most library hours. Please call ahead to make sure that a notary is on duty. The number to call is (860) 652-7720.

Rapid Readers:

This service allows Glastonbury residents who are willing and able to read a book in seven (7) days to bypass the regular reserves list and have access to popular books on demand. Current bestsellers and other popular titles are included in this collection. Rapid Readers books are found in a separate location for easy browsing. Senior Services:

The library offers many special collections that appeal to senior citizens, including large print books, books on tape, and DVDs and videos. We also provide book collections to local nursing homes.
