Sometimes people aren't sure where to look for a book, or they aren't sure what the computer is telling them when they look up a book they want to read. We hope this page helps!
These are the codes we use at Welles-Turner library.

PPB means it's a paperback book. The paperback books are on the shelves facing the parking lot on the first floor.
NEW means this book is in one of our new books areas. New fiction is found in the lobby area, behind the information desk area. New non-fiction is found just past the lending desk, on your left as you enter the building from the main parking lot. New biographies are at the beginning of the right-most aisle as you face the parking lot.
LP means this book is in large print format. All large print books (fiction, non-fiction, and biography) are found at the end of fiction area, with the exception of NEW large print books, which are located in the right-most aisle as you face the parking lot.
TKBK means it's a book on cassette (talking book). CDBK means it's a book on CD (talking book)Audio books are now located on the second floor along the right hand wall (facing the parking lot) and on low shelves in the study carrel area overlooking the parking lot. These items are filed alphabetically by the letter of the author's last name, not by author/title. Nonfiction audio books (cassette and CD) are marked with large light-green dots.
DVD means it's a movie in DVD format. These items are in the fiction area, near the videos. (New DVDs are located on the wall behind the new fiction in the lobby area.) These items are filed alphabetically by first letter only.
VIDEO means it's a video played on the VCR. The videos for adults are in the fiction area in the aisle closest to the circulation desk. These items are filed alphabetically by first letter only.
CD means it's a compact disk to be played on a CD player (or computer, if you have a sound card). The rest of the call number indicates the genre of the music (in this case, "pop" by the singer Celine Dion) and the last name of the artist. If the CD is not by a single artist, the first word of the CD's title is used (ex. Symphony). CD's are located in CD bins in the lobby area. The CD's are separated by genre (popular, opera, jazz, etc.). Each genre has also been given a shape/color code, to make it even easier to find the type of music you enjoy. These shape/color codes are posted above the CD bins.
NON-FICTION
We use the Dewey Decimal system to catalog non-fiction items. The chart below is a brief summary of some of the more popular areas. All adult non-fiction and reference books are on the second floor.
BIO means it's a biography. Our newer biographies are now being classified in this way, rather than with a Dewey Decimal number. Any biographies with this call number are on the second floor against the left wall facing the non-fiction area.
REF means it's a reference item. These items are found on the second floor. Reference materials do not circulate.
