Adult Services: Computer Use

The Welles-Turner Memorial Library has several computers for patron use. Microsoft Office 2000 is available. This includes Word, Powerpoint, and Excel. The computers also have Internet access.

We are now using SAM (Software Access Management) on our computers. This requires patrons to enter their library card number and a PIN when using the computers. This allows up to two hours a day for computer use. If a patron does not have an in-state library card, s/he can get a visitor's pass good for thirty minutes of computer time.

Parents are encouraged to supervise their children's use. Children eight and under must have a parent with them when using the computers.

Rules for computer use at the library are posted by each computer. Our Internet policy is also available online.

The computers are hooked up to a black-and-white laser printer. Printing costs twenty cents a page. Patrons are responsible for all pages that they print. They are encouraged to use the Print Preview feature to ensure that they are printing exactly and only what they wish to print. Printing costs are deducted from your SAM account. SAM will not alloow printing if there is not enough money in the account to cover the cost. Patrons may put up to $20 on their SAM account.

The Library also subscribes to several databases, including iCONN, EBSCO, Reference USA, and Facts.com. EBSCO and iCONN, both journal/magazine article databases, are available from home by going to our home page, clicking on Internet Links, and then Databases. You will need the barcode from your library card. Reference USA may also be reached via this path.

If you have questions regarding computer use at the Library, please call the Reference Department at (860) 652-7720.
